MEET THE EXEC

As MN exec, we're always happy to answer any questions about the club - you can catch us anytime at training or drop any of us a message on Facebook.

The quick bios below give you a brief introduction to our roles and personalities, and shows you our pretty faces so you know who to look out for!

President // Annabel Martirossian (4th Year Mechanical Engineering)

Picture
If Annabel isn't busy doing everything Mixed Netball as the President of the club, she is spending her time at the climbing centre or keeping up with her Engineering deadlines.

She joined MN in her second year, having regretted not being a part of the banter in her first year, where she became last year's Vice Captain (or match master) and flooded the MN Facebook group with Netball memes. Although she was on exec, she had lots of practice to be able to drink those FULL pints during adoptions in her third year! Rumour has it she still can't do full pints in circle without being the last MN standing! (#halfpintAnnabel). From umpiring at matches or training to dressing up as a spaceship for POP!, Annabel remains to seem calm and on the ball with everything Mixed Netball, unless of course she's given a sandwich #postsandwichcrash.

Captain // Annabelle Warwick (3rd Year Psychology)

Picture
Annabelle joined us in the second term of her first year and has loved every moment since. This psychology third year only missed one training session in her second year so the only position this keeno could be is Captain.

She can always be found in the middle of POP! dancing (or being held up) to her favourite songs. On the netball court her favourite position is Centre because she loves to be in the middle of all the action (nothing to do with keeping an eye on everyone).

Annabelle holds the title of best dressed, won at Awards Dinner this year after painting herself completely purple (that dedication) for circle. Annabelle is so excited to maintain the inclusiveness of this sport and she encourages everyone new to MN to just give it a go!!!

Vice-Captain // Chloe Phillimore (2nd Year Psychology)

Picture
Chloe joined the club in her freshers week and knew instantly this was the club for her! She got stuck in right away and was the proud winner of 'Hardcore Fresh' at the 2017 Awards dinner for (quote) "unreal levels of sass". As you may have guessed, Chloe is known for her sassy comments and slight savagery especially in circle, but it's all dished out with love really.

Her favourite netball position is any in defence (though goal keeper is the real chosen one for the lack of running involved). A highlight from her first year in the club has to be adoptions which happened to fall on the night before her 19th birthday - she can never look at eliminator from Kelsey's in the same way. This year Chloe is looking forward to organising as many friendly matches and tournaments as possible and making sure that everyone can get involved regardless of their ability!

Treasurer // Alex Clark (3rd Year Mathematics and Statistics)

Picture
Alex is this year's treasurer, meaning that he controls the flow of money in and out of the club, including finding and organising sponsorship.

He likes to dabble in all of the positions, using his height and weight to their full advantage. Even though Alex had never played net-based sports before coming to university, he took to it like a duck to water after joining at the start of his first year. Legend says that now his shots are more reliable than a sniper, and his defence is often compared to the 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae.

Despite his love for the sport of netball, Alex's favourite aspect of MN is the socials because it helps him forget about university work, which of course is boring when you do maths and statistics.

Secretary // Megan Parnell (3rd Year Psychology)

Picture
Megan has been a committed member of Mixed Netball since day one and has enjoyed every second of it. She was last year’s Social Sec but has decided to swap dishing out purples at circle to writing your weekly emails as part of her role as this year’s Secretary.

Other than writing emails and designing kit for this year, Megan can be found on the court in her favourite position of Goal Shooter (or Goal Keeper if she wants a good catch up with the person she’s marking). Not forgetting her truly favourite place which is in circle and POP! where she is still trying to learn her seven times tables! She's still getting used to being back on the outside of the circle so don't be surprised if you see her on the floor at POP!
She really enjoyed being on the Exec for Freshers fortnight last year, welcoming all of the old and new faces to this mad MN family, and can’t wait to do it all again for her final year.

Publicity Officer // Anna Bruce (3rd Year Biochemistry)

Picture
Anna has been a dedicated member of Mixed Netball since she joined in first year during fresher’s fortnight, and since has never looked back. Her favourite netball position is Goal Shooter and she is known for rarely missing a shot, both with netballs during training and with ping pong balls during circle!

Anna’s Mixed Netball highlight was winning best fancy dress at Awards Dinner last year after dressing as Russell from Up during Disney week, and since she has been a force to be reckoned with. Due to her enthusiasm and undying love for everything Mixed Netball, this was the only role for her. As publicity officer, she designs our (beautiful) website. She may be the first face you see at Sports fair promoting the club and is an initial point of call for any questions you may have. Anna may seem anti-social during POP! but really she is on twitter making sure we get all the shoutouts from Disco Dave or is posting that classic boomerang on our MN Instagram story.

Social Secretary // Ammu Menon (2nd Year MORSE)

Picture
Having missed out on the joys of Mixed Netball in her first year, Ammu wasted no time in throwing herself into the club during her second year attending almost all of the socials and training sessions and has enjoyed every single moment of it. After what happened at her first ever circle with Mixed Netball, it was obvious that being Social Sec of the club was truly her calling.

In order to escape the horrors of her degree (I mean, who wouldn’t when they do MORSE), she takes pleasure in taking care of the social side of the club, whether it be making sure everyone else in the circle knows their seven times tables as well as she does or organising (albeit fewer) “sober” socials. She has taken on the role of Social Sec in her stride and she cannot wait to welcome both old and new faces to the MN circle.

Social Secretary // Jessica Smith (4th Year Law and Sociology)

Picture
Jessica joined Mixed Netball in her fourth year, proving that its never too late to join Mixed Netball! Rumour has it, Jess may be the best mixed netball player in the whole club, and whilst we have many casual members, Jess always takes it very seriously, scoring an average of 10 goals per training session.

In her final year, Jess has finally given up with deadlines, to focus on the more important things - handing out pints of purple, and punishing freshers. You can usually find her on the middle of the dance floor at Pop! excessively tweeting Disco Dave for a shout out for the Mixed Netball elite. With a reputation for enjoying the bevs a bit too much, Jess repeatedly forgets her 7 times tables and Roman numerals every week without fail. Since starting her role as social sec, Jess has never escaped circle without “call yourself a social sec” chants. She of course makes up for this, with great netball playing and abilities to down a tropical VK in 5 seconds.

Charities and Events Officer // Charlotte Midgley (4th Year Law and Sociology)

Picture
When Charlotte reached her second year at uni, she decided she needed to get involved in a sports club (largely because she wanted a club to circle with before POP!!). But what could Charlotte join given her clumsiness and lack of hand-eye coordination? This is where Mixed Netball came in. Being open to all abilities and standards in training, and with fun and friendly socials, MN was the perfect choice.

Charlotte enjoys getting involved in charity and voluntary work and is looking forward to organising successful fundraising events over the next year as our new Charity and Events Officer, and to organising one of the MN highlights of the year: Awards Dinner! Our chosen charity for this year is Warwickshire Young Carers' Project! If anyone has any ideas or queries relating to the club's charitable work (or anything else!), feel free to get in contact!

Tour Secretary // Sophie Aujard (2nd Year Philosophy, Politics and Economics)

Picture
Sophie only joined Mixed Netball last year as a fresher, but now she's a second year PPE student and is keen to make sure you have an amazing tour! This year she's been handed the torch to take Mixed Netball on some of the best trips of our life (if she doesn't get lost on the way).

She proudly received the 'most improved' prize for her netball skills last year, which is testimony to how bad she was when she started, despite maintaining that it was all a ploy to prove to others that anyone can play netball. Her boundless enthusiasm means you can often see her throwing herself on the floor of the sports hall in unsuccessful game play. At training her favourite position is Wing Attack. At POP! her favourite position is on the floor after one too many purples! Mixed Netball made her first year fantastic and she can't wait to get stuck in during her second year and add to all the good memories.
